TRIP TO NORWAY SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2010.

1. Airport:      Haugesund airport, Karmøy. http://www.avinor.no/en/airport/haugesund Closest, but fewer planes- normally most expensive. (unless flying with Rayan air http://www.ryanair.com/en from London / Bremen / Alicante/Antalya).

25 min. with airportbus to Haugesund, (8 euro) + 20 min. local bus to Sveio (6 euro ). http://www.flybussen.no/haugesund/

Stavanger airport, Sola. Second closest airport, less expensive because of

higher frequency and more aircompanies (KLM, Lufthansa, SAS, ) – and the

airport we use! http://www.avinor.no/en/airport/stavanger 20 min. to

Stavanger  / 10 Euro, and then the coastbus to Sveio.

http://kystbussen.no/default.aspx   apx.32 Euro /adult (with discount for returntickets) This trip includes a ferry  and two tunnels 240 meters under sea-level.  If you arrive late in Stavanger (f.ex. after 20.30 ) you must stay  overnight, because the latest bus ( probably) leaves at 22.00.

Bergen airport, Flesland.  In many ways as Stavanger, BUT longer and more expensive bustrips. And longer flights.

2. Staying:      Students can stay in private homes with our students, and take the schoolbus to  school (2 euro?).

Teachers can stay at Hotels in Haugesund or stay in Cabins at

Vestvik/Førde. From Vestvikvågen you can take the local schoolbuss to the mainroad (5,5 km , 2 euro) and then get a lift with  teachers (us living up north )to the school.

If you stay in cabins: all the food have to be bougth in Sveio where there are two shops near the school.

3. Excursions: We are planning at least one day-roundtrip in the area with bus, which is

apx.100 euro/each country – 5-600 euro all together. Going to Haugesund with

local bus is 4 euro each one way.  The trip to the light-house we drive in car

and probably have to rent a maxi-taxi for the rest

4. Shopping:   Here are some apx. Prices: Bread 1-3 euro, juice 2 euro, butter 2 euro, cheese 5

                        euro, sliced ham 4 euro/150 g, milk 2 euro/liter,  fruit 2-3 euro/kg, …

5. Equipment: Normal clothes for late Norwegian summertime, windresistant jacket,

umbrellas/raincoats, good walking shoes for trips in the field.

6. Program:    Is not finally planned yet, but our thoughts are:

We are still thinking of one or two days at school, one day to see the nature: climbing a nearby hill, a short drive+40 min. walk to a lighthouse with art-exhibition, and if we are lucky: a boat trip?!

One day roundtrip to different nice places(perhaps a salmon-farm, oyster-culturing,- maybe to Bømlo -the island between us and Great Britain.)
